Cocktail mode

A cocktail library that reads like a magazine.

Meshi Midnight is the cocktail mode of Meshi. 300+ hand-curated drinks, dark-theme editorial design, character-driven cataloging. Every drink is a small ceremony — not a recipe to grind through.

Why the cocktail side feels different

Cooking is utilitarian: you need to eat. Cocktails are deliberate: you don't accidentally make a Negroni. The two activities are different, and the interfaces for them should probably also be different.

Meshi Midnight is a complete design system separate from the food side — warmer palette, darker surfaces, serif italic headlines, copper-and-gold accents, photography that treats each drink as a portrait. Same engine, different mood.

What's in the library

300+ curated drinks

Classic, modern classic, and signature pours. Each entered by hand, photographed, color-corrected, tagged with character. No AI-generated filler.

Character badges instead of star ratings

Drinks get badges like Smoke Signal, Velvet Knot, Wild Card — meaningful character tags that orient you toward the mood of the drink, not toward a 4.3-out-of-5 number. Ratings, when you rate, are PASS / NOTE / KEEP / STAPLE: clear verdicts, not numeric averages.

A bar you actually use

Tell Meshi what bottles you have. The library shows what you can make tonight. Substitutions are first-class — out of dry vermouth? Meshi tells you which drinks work with what you do have.

A Friday night, on the cocktail side

You open Meshi at 8pm. The cocktail side opens — dark, copper accents, a fraunces-italic headline telling you what's making the rounds in the Meshi Midnight community this week. You tap into the Ready-to-Mix grid: cocktails you can make tonight, based on your bar.

You pick a drink with the Smoke Signal badge — mezcal, smoked, a little theatrical. The detail page opens with a hero image and a short editorial framing of where the drink came from. Below that, the recipe. The amounts auto-adjust when you say you're making two instead of one. You hit "Add to Ledger" — Meshi remembers you made it and keeps a running ledger of your favorites and your STAPLE drinks.

By the time you're back from the kitchen with the drink, the app has logged the cook and you're already thinking about which drink you'll make next week.

Built like a magazine, runs like an app

Recipe apps for cocktails usually feel like utility apps: a list, an ingredient table, a how-to. Meshi Midnight is the opposite. Editorial typography. Photographs that earn the space they take. A vocabulary that's about character and ritual, not points and stars.

It's the same Meshi engine underneath — same offline-first storage, same AI chat, same Cook Stack timers for when you're making three drinks for company. It just doesn't feel like it's the same app, because cocktails aren't the same as cooking.
