Our Commitment

Meshi is committed to making our recipe management application accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We work to follow widely accepted accessibility standards and continually improve the experience for assistive-technology users.

Standard

Meshi targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We test against this standard during development and as part of our automated test pipeline.

Recent Accessibility Work

  • Touch targets: All interactive controls meet a 44×44px minimum hit-area, with invisible halos on icon-only buttons so chip styling can stay compact
  • Color contrast: Body and UI text meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio for normal text; critical interactive states have been remediated
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard, with logical focus order and visible focus indicators
  • Screen reader support: Semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and Bits UI primitives provide consistent screen-reader announcements
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus-visible rings on all interactive elements

Known Limitations

We are continuously improving. Some known limitations as of the date above:

  • A small number of axe accessibility rules may still report violations on edge-case pages. The previously open button-name issues on the landing and welcome screens have been fixed, and the nested-interactive issues on the food home carousel and pantry pages have been fixed
  • Mobile Safari driver issues sometimes cause cosmetic test failures in our accessibility test suite that do not represent real user-facing issues. We investigate any genuine regressions promptly
  • Some AI-generated recipe imagery uses generated alt text that may not perfectly describe every image

Reporting Accessibility Issues

If you encounter an accessibility barrier in Meshi, please email help@meshi.recipes with a description of the issue, the page or feature involved, and the assistive technology you were using. We aim to respond within 5 business days.
